  • Happy 40th Birthday Sesame Street

    via youtube.com

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the children's show, Sesame Street. In the late 1960s, the Carnegie Institute granted Joan Cooney $8 million to start the Children's Television Workshop, and on November 10th, 1969, the first episode of Sesame Street aired on PBS.

Over the years, Sesame Street has influenced countless generations of kids well into their adult lives. There is hardly an modern internet user today who cannot attribute their appreciation of clever, colorful, and to the point media segments to their childhood fascination with Sesame Street. Even many modern internet memes can find their roots in the classic children's show, such as the "Om nom nom."

    Here's to another 40 years!
