Did you like Minority Reports uber futuristic interfaces? Yeah, this guy invented it. It's the usual interesting talk, but then it hits 5:15 where it goes into "wait, did he just do that?"
This amazing talk by Jane McGonigal of the Institute for The Future discusses how gamers are today's optimal workers, and that we need to harness their work ethic to make the world a better place.
See mom? I don't play games because I'm lazy. "Playing a game with someone builds up bonds and trusts and cooperation, and we actually build stronger social relationships because of it."
Microsoft and the Bing team pretty much give a big "neener neener" to Google and their map system. While I personally can be hard on Microsoft at times for their lack of innovation, perhaps this is a sign that their culture is changing.
This is an great TED talk about the concept that the internet is made up of infinite acts of kindness. He goes into many examples of how people work to make the internet model survive with absolutely no motivation outside of the fact that they believe in the cause and want it to work.
I completely agree with everything he talks about. The internet is an example of Utopian society where by virtue of having no actual rules, people will naturally create their own set of rules and standards and even enforce those rules for the better good of everyone. Rules truly created by society itself have ownership by society, and in turn are respected by society.
This is a must watch for all the cynics out there who think that everyone in society is just out for themselves.
