Today in 1989, The Berlin Wall Fell
via en.wikipedia.org
Today is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was one of the earliest memories of historical significance I can remember. At the time, I didn't even know what it was about, but I was amazed at all the celebration. For those who don't know, the Berlin Wall was a physical barrier that separated West Germany from the communist run East Germany. It was the major symbolic representation of the tensions between the American Allied forces and the Soviet Communist regime during the Cold War.
The fall of the Berlin Wall effectively marked the beginning of the end of the decades long Cold War. More photos are available on Google's tribute page as well as wikipedia.
